From the somewhat humble beginnings of their first performance on 15th september 1946 at the Davis Theatre in Croydon, Sir Thomas Beecham's Royal Philharmonic Orchestra has become a recognisable global phenomenon and is often regarded as "Britain's National Orchestra". Hosted by Andrew Sachs, this documentary examines the first fascinating 50 years fo the RPO with interviews from former current members and an in-depth look a how a group of talented musicians went from the brink of collapse to capturing the hearts fo audiences around the world.
