Oscar Peterson - Jazz Manifesto

Peterson's commitment to swing has been constantly compelling and it was arranger Lalo Schifrin who asserted that Peterson was the Liszt of modern jazz, in contrast to fellow pianist Bill Evans, who was it Chopin. The implication was that Evans seduced the piano while Peterson conquered it, in reference to the latter's complete mastery of a variety of forms, from swing to bop and stride to near-classical.
